MULTI STANDARD COLOUR TELEVISION TRAINER
This device functioned as a teaching aid at the Faculty of Education, UTM. Before the LCD and monitor displays period, this device was used by the Faculty around 2005 until early 2015 to study manually the software and hardware of a television system. It was also used by the Diploma students to study aspects of lighting, colour, camera, data signal, and frequency of a television system.
LIGHTING GAUGE ‘EXTEK MODEL’
The ‘Densitometer’ was used to measure the level of lighting on finished processed film. The use of this tool helped in producing quality images from microfilms.
At UTM Library, this tool was used in the darkroom during the microfilm washing process.
FILM CUTTER & CONNECTOR ‘SHINKO MODEL’
The ‘Film Splicer’ was used to detach and attach films during the editing process. It was available in various types and sizes depending on the size of the film used.
This tool was only applicable to process the 16mm and 35mm sized films in UTM Library.
MICROFILM QUALITY INSPECTION MACHINE ‘RECORDAK MODEL’
The ‘Microfilm Inspection Station’ was used to inspect the quality of UTM Library microfilm collection. By using this tool, the microfilms underwent a ‘winding process’ whereby the film was rotated by relevant machine components. This process was designed to control the level of moisture of the film and to prevent the formation of fungus on the microfilm surface. The maintenance was done from time to time to ensure the quality of the stored microfilms.
APPLE MACINTOSH CLASSIC COMPUTER
The Macintosh Classic was first introduced in early January 1984 and has since been used in UTM Library in early 1990. It was equipped with a software memory of 1 MB of RAM and 2 MB to 40 MB of hard disk. With its large capacity at the time, the computer was used in the Library along with the Lotus 123 and Word Star applications for work and simple calculation.
